In August 2021, ImpACT International reported that the Moroccan subsidiary of Sitel sacked eight employees for having formed a trade union, in a blatant violation of Moroccan law and international conventions on workers’ rights.
According to the Moroccan Workers’ Union (UMT), the company’s management took collective dismissal actions against eight employees for joining the union as soon as it learned of its formation.
One of the affected workers added that “the management denied payment of their due salaries only because they established a trade union office to defend their rights and interests in accordance with the law framed for trade union work internationally and nationally”.
